Online Lessons FAQ
If you have questions about online lessons, you’re not alone — I’d love to help!
“My daughter has been taking piano with Pamela for almost 4 years now and it has been amazing to see her skills and love of piano grow every year. Pamela is so encouraging and great at choosing pieces that are tailored to my daughter’s needs; challenging but not overwhelming. My daughter looks forward to her lesson each week. We also love the online format, no slick roads in the winter! I highly recommend Pamela’s studio.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to your most burning questions about online violin and piano lessons! If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to reach out:
-
Absolutely! Developing a meaningful relationship with students is just as important online as it is in-person, and I highly value and nurture that part of the teacher-student relationship!
Students also make excellent progress with online lessons, and learn greater independence and listening skills. The use of interactive tools such as games, screen-share and annotation, and multiple camera angles, along with online specific teaching techniques, makes for an excellent learning environment!
-
All lessons are LIVE, so it’s just like an in-person lesson without the travel time!
Asynchronous instruction (recorded video feedback) is used in place of make-ups, and short recordings can be taken during the lesson for students to review throughout the week so they always know what to do!
Some students choose to do mostly asynchronous lessons if their schedule does not permit a regular weekly lesson time.
-
Not at all - a regular laptop or tablet will do the trick! I provide a tech call before lessons begin to help you get set up so I can see and hear you clearly, making set-up stress free!
I do recommend a laptop or tablet stand to make positioning of the camera easier, however it is not necessary to get started! -
Asynchronous lessons are used in place of a live lesson when the student or teacher can’t make the regular lesson time.
Students send videos of their assignments, and I spend their lesson time reviewing the videos, and providing detailed feedback along with next steps! It’s an excellent way to still have a lesson, and provides flexibility for students and their families! -
Yes! You need your own instrument, as you will need to be able to practice throughout the week. Let me know f you need assistance on whether to rent/purchase, and what to get.

“I have been taking weekly Zoom violin lessons with Pamela for two years now and would recommend her highly. Pamela is an excellent teacher, and very well educated in music instruction. Each of my lessons builds upon the previous one and I am able to make steady progress without ever feeling stressed or overwhelmed. It has been a real joy to study with Pamela and I am looking forward to continuing to study, practise and improve my skills under her direction.”
